You have have noticed a lack of music blog posts of late - that's because I've shifted my music blogging over to Yeah! - http://www.yeahmusic.co.uk/ - a night I help run in Canterbury. Check out the posts and let me know what you think. It's always fun blogging about music :]

And so I decided to update this website. It used to be based on Wordpress, which although nice, I was never quite happy with. It seemed everything I wanted to do was a bit of a hack in Wordpress (even simple things like displaying a block on certain pages). This was probably most likely due to my much stronger experience with Drupal.

To this end I decided that when Drupal 7 was release, I would update edwinwills.com to become a Drupal 7 site, with my own custom theme. Well this time has come, and here is the result.

So, my thoughts of Drupal 7?

I do love it from a visual point of view (everything admin is very pretty now), and the new default theme Bartik is also pretty great. Themeing wise there are a few changes, but nothing that should trip up the seasoned theme-er too much. I use the 960 grid system for themes I create, and when I created this theme, the master theme for Drupal was not Drupal 7 compatible, so I just updated a copy of the Drupal 6 theme to suit me.

For me, the key module I'm missing is the Media module (previously Emfield). While it is available, there are a few key missing components for it (notably a lot of 3rd party media support). I will be specifically looking into porting the Media: Soundcloud module, as I use Soundcloud a lot for music production and tune hunting.

I'll keep updating the blog with how I get on with Drupal 7 - it is a very pleasant experience so far, albeit with a number of bug that have sneaked in (every now and then I get a few different error/warning messages - I'm still trying to sort them). As modules get updated these bugs will slowly disappear, and it will soon be at the stage of stability Drupal 6 has now reached.

Good work Drupal!

New tune out on Ranking Records - some nice shifty 2-steppy vibes going on. With a massively grimey synth line. All adds up...

A little while ago I did a remix for a friend's band - Belleville - for their new EP launch. I got a message the other day to say the remix had been mastered and was available for free download - so here you go :)
